Day Care Provider

About the Teacher

Miss April, our Head Teacher, has been working with typical and special needs children since 1992; obtaining a Master's Degree in Education in Early Intervention Therapy and has professional memberships with NAEYC and NYSABA.  With over 20 years of experience successfully working in schools, homes and day cares, Miss April has learned what make kids successful in and out of the classroom and what doesn't.

Miss April also works closely within the Brookhaven community; supporting young children with Behavioral, Social and Learning Disabilities.  She also is also intimately familiar with the Middle Country curriculum, Handwriting without Tears and is all to well versed with the challenges our youth are having with the new Core curriculum.

Miss April enjoys time with her family with her loving husband and two boys ages 3 and 6.   She loves to see children learn and grow and has followed her previous families that she has worked with to see their children blossom over two decades.

Although our community is filled with day cares staffed with loving teachers and great staff that will love our children, the difference with us is that we have the education and experience to have your child thrive and do not rely on guesswork to figure out what is best for your child.

About Our Curriculum

Core Curriculum

The It's About Time curriculum focuses on age-appropriate learning by creating meaningful experiences for children and allowing them to experiment with their surroundings and giving guidance to their exploration of their surroundings.  Children retain better and can better implement their skills when they learn by doing.

While the introduction of the Core curriculum passed down from New York State, we will have children learning at a faster pace then ever before with even larger sized classrooms then we have seen in the past. In preparation, we focus on raising the confidence, awareness and socialization skills to get students ready with the tools in order to be successful.

We do not focus on dittos, rote learning, forcing friendships and lecture.  Rather, we focus on real life learning, sharing, cooperation, and empathy toward others.  Activities will typically be run by allowing a child to see what they can do with various materials or explore our backyard in search of things that are 'green', 'heavy', 'large' or even pick fruits and vegetables and count them up.  Our activities are practical, relevant and fun.

About the Staff

Potential Staff that wish to work at It's About Time must undergo an extensive background check including fingerprinting, medical examination, NYS registration and clearance by the OCFS (NYS Office of Child and Family Services).

They must also possess a vaild Drivers License, CPR and First Aid certifications.   Although it is mandated that all staff members undergo at least 30 hours of training every two years, we additionally require them to demonstrate that they understand Best Practices with regards with how interact with, play, teach and discipline children.

The key to our employment process is that we make sure to identify those potential candidates that have the necessary education, previous experience and good judgement to know that they will keep our kids safe but can also handle a group setting of younger children for an extended period of time.

Once the staff are hired, they undergo training every day using real life opportunities to learn until vital childcare skills are mastered.

The IATCC Learning Experience

It's About Time differentiates itself in very positive ways from the competition:

  • Our class is run by a Certified Early Education Teacher with over 20 years of experience.

  • Our staff are to be engaged with children at all times.  We do not allow "babysitting" in our center.  They must have a PASSION for what they do.

  • Our curriculum focuses on the learning and the development of a child.  We do not feel that we have succeeded unless we can prepare children for academics, but also when we acan help a shy child to become more outgoing, the behavioral child to have less negative behaviors and children with emerging skills to be successful before they enter a formal school program .

  • Our center is safe, clean and full of learning opportunities.

  • Our property has video surveillance all around our premises.  There is no such thing as "safe enough" with our children!

  • Our name means that It's About Time that we should all expect more from a Day Care Provider!
